Fairytale Wedding at Athletic Club of Columbus

April 12th, 2022

Erika and John had a beautiful fairytale wedding at The Athletic Club of Columbus – it was a wedding full of little details that make me happy just thinking about. Erika and John were referred to me from a friend – she was the nanny of one of my kids’ friends, and I had seen her around at school and various activities here and there. When she got engaged, she knew she wanted a planner to help her with everything. She’s organized and detailed in her everyday life, but wedding planning was not going to be her thing.

When we discussed our services, I’ll never forget that conversation – she said, that’s great, do it all for me. I want to show up and be surprised. I want little hints of Mickey (Mouse) everywhere. A fairytale Disney wedding. But John interrupted…hold on, he said! I also want some Canadian representation – something that represents me, the outdoors and boating. We want it to be classy but not over the top.

And so it began….our mission to create this fairytale winter wedding that was elevated and classy, but not stuffy, and incorporated Disney…and boating…whew!

Getting Ready / Details

I thought we could build a custom crest that would give Erika and John both elements they wanted to see on their wedding day. Something that had a winter feel, with a hint of Disney and a hint of boating. I wasn’t sure what that was going to look like, but I knew Christy with The Paper Vow could bring it to life! To say that I’m obsessed with the way it turned out is an understatement. I used this crest as inspiration for the rest of the design for the day.

Portraits

In true fairytale fashion, Erika had the most perfect princess dress, with a blush undertone and lace overlay and a train that went on forever.

Ceremony

We went all out with the floral design at the church. That wasn’t our original plan, but it was important to them that the church didn’t look like it does every week at services, and that it felt like a wedding when you walked in. So, Bluhen did just that. Saint Catherine is the church that Erika attends, so it was special to her. John’s family also brought in the Cathedral Choir to sing for the ceremony, which elevated the experience even more.

Reception

Erika knew she wanted blue in her wedding – anytime someone is open to colorful linens, I’m in! Soft, organic blooms and winter greens adorned all the tables, with regal plates, menu cards and the “key to happily ever after”. Erika loves calligraphy on mirrors, so we did just that – Lovely Arrows recreated our crest, which turned out amazing! She also did our seating chart and welcome sign, the perfect nod to our Disney theme. One of their favorite surprises, was the custom cocktail napkins with their pets saying “we do too” – this is quickly becoming one of the most popular details for our clients!
